Cleaning instructions

Cleaning should be part of your weekly routine. When you clean regularly, it improves your health and mood, makes your life more comfortable and makes moving out easier.  Keep in mind that your room has to be clean when you move out. We recommend that you clean your toilet regularly. If you’re not familiar with the cleaning procedures, check the instruction below.

Wash the toilet bowl inside and outside. Use a toilet brush to spread the cleaning detergent around the toilet bowl. Use cleaning cloth when washing the outside of the bowl. Soak the cleaning cloth in cleaning solution and wipe the mirror, the shelves and the surfaces clean, as well as the handles on the doors and the light switch. Clean also the sink, the tap, the plug and the overflow with a scrubbing sponge or a brush or a cleaning cloth. We advise you to use different cleaning cloths for the toilet bowl and for the rest of the surfaces. Please note that there is no shower in your toilet, instead each floor has a shared shower in a separate room.

We recommend that you wipe the dust from you room regularly. Use a vacuum cleaner for the floor and cleaning cloths for other surfaces. Use a mop when washing floor surfaces. Be careful with the amount of water when you’re washing the floors. There are no drains in the room or in the toilet, and floor- and wall materials are not water resistant.

Tenants are responsible for keeping the common rooms tidy. A professional cleaner does a general cleaning two times a week. The cleaner wipes surfaces such as floors and tables and washes shower room. Despite of the cleaning service, tenants have to clean up after themselves. We advise you to take your shoes off when entering your living floor on the dorm. This way the dorm and your own room stays cleaner as there’s no dirt and sand on the floors. You may use slippers or other footwear inside of the dorm. Did you know, that it is also a Finnish custom to take shoes off in private residences, such as somebody's home? You should keep this in mind if you get to visit a Finnish residence.
